The principles guiding our ratings
Palmoil.io Ratings are our independent assessment of deforestation and social risk, built from evidence rather than from what a company tells us about itself. These principles describe how we work today. We will add to them as the ratings develop.
The problem
Existing ratings systems do not measure real world performance
They rely on self-reported questionnaires.
They are conducted by consultants with opaque methodologies.
They give you no opportunity to correct factual mistakes.
The solution
Our five principles
No questionnaire
Ratings are calculated from public mill lists and our own monitoring methodology. We never ask a company to complete a questionnaire, and nothing a company sends us is required for its rating to exist.
Corrections are free
Anyone can propose a correction, customer or not, at no cost. We review what you send and, if a correction is needed, it appears in the next monthly update.
We do not sell services to improve a rating
We do not sell services to improve a rating. Nothing a company buys from us changes how it is rated.
Private data stays private
Data a customer uploads to Plot Check or Portfolio does not change any company's rating, including their own. Private mill lists never enter the subscriber-facing database.
Buying does not move a rating
Being a customer, or choosing not to be one, has no influence on a rating. We do not offer improved scores, advance notice of a downgrade, or the removal of a case as part of any commercial arrangement.
If you think something is wrong, contact us
Tell us what is incorrect and send us what you have. We will review it, and if a correction is needed, it will appear in the next monthly update. This applies whether or not you are a customer.
The MapHubs team reads every message sent to this address.
You can correct the record

You can explain your rating to a customer
